What next? Black & Decker lip plumper? I was truly surprised to find that the company that makes those weird little knives, beloved of boyscouts, old coots and Bear Gryllis, would branch out into fragrances, of all things. And a really lovely fragrance at that.
About a year or two ago, my next door neighbor dropped by (we have a long-term relationship based on mutual need: I shop for food and generally have some on the premises; he is not afraid of bugs and will kill even a really big moth when summoned). He was wearing a very light cologne/aftershave that smelled soooooo good. He said it was Swiss Army Knife. I thought he was kidding.
The men's version is the epitome of how a man should smell. Kinda like Dad smelled on Sunday, but with a touch more pizzazz...a little more peppery/gingery, with lavender and lemon and maybe something balsamic...just so clean and fresh and a little old-fashioned.
A few weeks later, I opened my door and found a tiny box outside...in it was a bottle of Swiss Army perfume for Women, courtesy of the sweet-natured bug-slayer next door. I didn't open the bottle for a while because I didn't want to smell like my father, number one, and number two, a really silly fear that it might make me want to take up ham radio or remote control airplanes.
After hiding it in the medicine cabinet for weeks, I finally brought out the bright Swiss Army Red bottle, opened it, gave it a spritz...and got a very pleasant surprise. The scent is light, clean, and delicate. The first thing you notice is the spicy ginger, similar to the men's scent, but it's toned down with some light florals. Nice and girly and nothing that's gonna make you want to wear Birkenstocks and stop waxing your legs.
Swiss Army for Women is so lovely, when the first bottle was gone, i bought another and another. It's now a favorite "go-to" fragrance. Think of Swiss Army as a scent for those occasions when you want to feel and smell a little pretty, but don't want to bring out the heavy artillary. It's a sporty little scent, perfect for sporty occasions.
And when people ask what I'm wearing, I look 'em right in the eye and say: "It's Swiss Army issue. I started wearing it when I trained with the Special Forces." (Truth is, my military experience is limited to a brief stint in the Brownies. I was 86ed for refusing to eat marshmallows, failing to keep my little neckerchief from falling off, and poking Theresa Marie Fianucci in the eye with a hot dog, which was purely in self-defense. She was twice my size, a known biter, and started it by putting ketchup in my hair, NOT I might add, for the first time.)
